Functionalized Magnetite Nanoparticles Using Two New Ionic Liquids for Efficient Oil Spill Cleanup

Recently, magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) have gained great attention for oil spill cleanup due to their unique properties, e.g., high removal efficiency, surface area, and response an external magnetic field. The efficiency of MNPs uptake can be enhanced by functionalizing using different materials. Furthermore, the functionalization MNP these materials promotes chemical stability. This study aims functionalize two newly synthesized hydrophobic ionic liquids (ILs) apply them cleanup. ILs were reaction glycidyl-4-nonyl ether (GE) with fatty amines, either octadecylamine (OA) or dodecylamine (DA), yield corresponding GEOA GEDA, respectively. GEDA quaternized acetic acid (AA) produce ILs, GEOA-IL GEDA-IL. produced GEDA-IL, applied modification (MNPs), producing surface-modified MNPs, GO-MNPs GD-MNPs, GD-MNPs characterized Fourier transform infrared, X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, dynamic light scattering, contact angle, vibrating sample magnetometer. Their (ORE) was investigated at : crude ratios ranging from 1 1–1 50. showed ORE even low ratios. higher than which may explained containing a longer alkyl chain in comparison displayed excellent reusability five cycles, slight decrease increasing cycles.
